I was going to have a different post each day but realized it would be a broken record kind of week so I added a link list to the right of Banned/Challenged posts I've already written.
On Wednesday, October 3, I'll be reviewing The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian as well as giving it away along with a homemade bookmark. Stay tuned!
sorry, US only

No books have been banned in the USA for about half a century. Thomas Sowell calls BBW "National Hogwash Week" and for good reason. To balance the above story with factual information, read what Dr. Sowell said and many others here: http://tinyurl.com/Sowell
ReplyDeleteIt isn't so much about banning for me as it is about challenges but that doesn't have quite the same ring.
ReplyDeleteThere are still people out there that feel they have the right to tell me what I, or my children, can and can not read. That is unacceptable.
I might actually like Dr. Sowell, I'll check him out, later.
Right. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAs to the parents who think they have the right to tell people what to read, fortunately materials reconsideration policies are in place to moderate that. So let them bring any complaint they wish. The process with take care of things. There is no need to call them names such as "censors" as the ALA does.
Yes Safe Libraries has hit a few of the posts... I cant remember where I seen it first but there was a comment on one that was AWESOME about banned/challenged books and I wish I could remember where I seen it.
