I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Until We Touch by Susan Mallery
Fool's Gold, (June 24) 2014 (so excited), mass market paperback

After a family tragedy, former football hero Jack McGarry keeps the world at arm’s length – a challenge now that his PR firm has moved to neighborly Fool’s Gold.

Larissa Owens knows where she stands – Jack’s her boss, not her boyfriend. No matter what her heart says. But then Larissa's big secret is revealed...by her mother!

When Jack discovers Larissa’s feelings, her touch suddenly becomes tantalizing, and he’s not sure he wants to resist. But if he gives in to desire, heartache is sure to follow. Friendship or true love-- will Jack go for the ultimate play?

White Fire by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
Pendergast, 2013, ebook

Corrie Swanson sets out to solve a long-forgotten mystery. In 1876, in a remote mining camp called Roaring Fork in the Colorado Rockies, several miners were killed in devastating grizzly bear attacks. Now the town has become an exclusive ski resort and its historic cemetery has been dug up to make way for development.

Corrie has arranged to examine the remains of the dead miners. But in doing so she makes a shocking discovery that threatens the resort's very existence. The town's leaders, trying to stop her from exposing their community's dark and bloody past, arrest and jail her.

Special Agent Pendergast of the FBI arrives to help--just as a series of brutal arson attacks on multimillion dollar homes terrify the town and drive away tourists.

Drawn irresistibly into the investigation, Pendergast discovers an unlikely secret in Roaring Fork's past, connecting the resort to a chance meeting between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde. With the town under siege, and Corrie's life in desperate danger, Pendergast must solve the riddle of the past... before the town of the present goes up in flames.

*Review Book*
After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid
women's fiction, 2014

When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

It’s the trouble you aren’t expecting that gets you. And it’s all around you, Bronwyn, it’s all around you like the air.…

Bronwyn "BitsyWyn" Whalen hasn’t set eyes on the red dirt of Magnolia Creek, Alabama, for fourteen years—not since her mama died. But with her brother, Patrick, imprisoned for the murder of her childhood best friend, and her eccentric father, Jackson, at his wits’ end while her eleven-year-old niece, Byrd, runs wild, Bronwyn finds herself once again surrounded by ancient magnolia trees and the troubled family she left behind. She becomes immersed in a whirlwind of mystery and magic as she tries to figure out what really happened that fateful night her friend died. And as her bond with Byrd deepens, Bronwyn must face the demons of her past in order to unravel her family’s uncertain future.

~ here are the new books in my house this week ~

    Sleigh Bells and Wedding Rings
    romance, 2009, mass market paperback

This title contains three classic romances spreading the special gift of love at Christmas!

"The Christmas Basket" by Debbie Macomber
    "Mistletoe Marriage" by Jessica Hart

The Noticer Returns by Andy Andrews
    personal growth/Christian living, 2013, ebook

    Perspective is a powerful thing.

Andy Andrews has spent the past five years doing a double take at every white-haired old man he sees, hoping to have just one more conversation with the person to whom he owes his life.

Through a chance encounter at a local bookstore, Andy is reunited with the man who changed everything for him – Jones, also known as “The Noticer.”

As the story unfolds, Jones uses his unique talent of noticing little things that make a big difference. And these “little things” grant the people of Fairhope, Alabama, a life-changing gift - perspective. Along the way, families will be united, financial opportunities will be created, and readers will be left with powerfully simple solutions to the everyday problems we all face.

Through the lens of a parenting class at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, Jones guides a seemingly random group to ask specific questions inspired by his curious advice that “You can’t believe everything you think.” Those questions lead to answers for which people have been searching for centuries:
    • How do we begin to change the culture in which we live?
    • What is the key to creating a life of success and value?
    • What if what we think is the end…is only the beginning?
What starts as a story of one person's everyday reality unfolds into the extraordinary principles available to anyone looking to create the life for which they were intended.

    True Love by Jude Deveraux

    True Love
    Nantucket Brides trilogy
    by Jude Deveraux

    Ballantine Books
    July 2013
    978-0345541796
hardcover (also ebook, MMP, and audio)
    Romance
    448 pages

    author's website

    Book Description:

Just as Alix Madsen is finishing up architectural school, Adelaide Kingsley dies and wills her, for one year, the use of a charming nineteenth-century Nantucket house. The elderly woman’s relationship to the Madsen family is a mystery to the spirited Alix—fresh from a romantic breakup—but for reasons of her own Alix accepts the quirky bequest, in part because it gives her time to plan her best friend’s storybook wedding.

    ~ My Thoughts ~
How wonderful to see the Taggerts and Montgomerys again. You don't need to read any of the previous books with the Taggerts and Montgomerys in them but they do make an appearance.

How would you feel if your favorite Aunt died and instead of you inheriting the house as you expected, you got the house. . . and a houseguest?
Of course there are bad feelings coming from Jared but the secrets he is keeping could to more damage to this budding relationship. To make matters worse, Jared isn't the only one keeping secrets and Alix's world is about to be rocked.

This is a beautiful story about friendship, family, and true love with a little paranormal thrown in.

Book 2 comes out next month (hardcover/ebook/audio) and is Toby's book. I'm assuming that book 3 will be Lexi's book and her true love will be her boss. Also thinking it will be coming out in 2015. :-(

I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy . . . and going back to revisit the Taggerts and Montgomerys.

This was checked out of the library. I'm a fan of Jude Deveraux and have already read the previous books with the Taggerts and Montomerys.

Wishes and Stitches by Rachael Herron
A Cypress Hollow novel, 2011, trade paperback

It has always been Naomi Fontaine’s dream to practice small-town medicine—an ambition that brought her to Cypress Hollow, the charming, tight-knit community her late friend, knitting guru Eliza Carpenter, loved so well. But no matter how hard she tries, Naomi can’t seem to fit in here. Then rugged Rig Keller moves in to take over half of Naomi’s medical practice, and instantly charms everyone in town . . . including Naomi.

Rig saw what a broken relationship did to his brother, and has no interest whatsoever in getting serious. But the temptation to play doctor with his new partner is just too strong to resist. Any chance they might have of being truly knit together by love, however, depends entirely on what secrets they are willing to reveal . . . and on Rig’s willingness to risk his heart and Naomi’s desire to open hers completely.
