I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale
Princess Academy, 2005, trade paperback

High on the side of rocky Mount Eskel, far from the valleys where gardens are green and lush, where lowlanders make laws, Miri’s family has lived forever, pounding a living from the stone of the mountain itself. For as long as she can remember, Miri has dreamed of working alongside the other villagers in the quarries of her beloved mountainside. But Miri has never been allowed to work there, perhaps, she thinks, because she is so small.

Then word comes from the valley that the king's priests have divined Mount Eskel to be the home of the prince’s bride-to-be—the next princess. The prince himself will travel to the village to choose her, but first all eligible girls must attend a makeshift mountain academy to prepare themselves for royal lowlander life.

At the school, Miri soon finds herself confronted by bitter competition among the girls and her own conflicting desires to be chosen by the prince. Yet when danger comes to the academy and threatens all their lives, it is Miri, named for a tiny mountain flower, who must find a way to save her classmates—and the one chance to leave the mountain each of them is determined to secure as her own.

SEAL It With A Kiss by Rogenna Brewer
SEAL It With a Kiss, 2016, ebook

To become the first female SEAL, she’ll have to match wits with the best…

Lieutenant Tabitha Chapel is determined to join the Teams. She’s not about to let a little thing like gender get in her way. She’ll use every wile–feminine or otherwise–and her considerable strength of will to win this battle of the sexes. But the limits of her determination are tested by the only Navy SEAL capable of commanding her heart.

Commander Marc Miller is equally determined to keep her out of his program. As the newly appointed CO of BUD/S, he’s been tasked with cleaning up SEAL Training. He doesn’t need a red-hot redhead compounding the problem. For him Hell Week begins when one well-connected junior officer walks into his office.

The last thing he wants is to be her commanding officer when the only thing he wants is her. The only way to have her––and the surest way to lose her––is to see that she fails.

Will love conquer all or tear them apart?

A Cougar's Cry by A.M. Halford  (facebook)
Itayu Lake, 2016, ebook

Logan’s tired of being pushed away and refused by his mate. When Jared declares their pairing unnatural he finally decides enough is enough.

Jared’s family has drilled into him that only water dragons are to be trusted. He’s confused and scared when he learns his destined mate is a cougar, not a water dragon. So he acts rashly and forces him away, realizing too late that he’s made a mistake. As he watches his mate sit helplessly in a hospital bed, he swears to change.

To allow Logan to heal, and for them to come together as mates, Jared takes them to Itayu Lake. There he starts to question when he started to accept his Sire’s words, and the horrors of his own past come to light.

Logan must try and forgive Jared for everything he’s done so he can help his mate come to terms with what has happened to him. Matters are further complicated when Jared’s mother arrives with the goal of taking all of her sons back with her.

The Brac Pack by Lynn Hagen
The Brac Pack, 2011, ebook bundle

This contains the complete series. There are 5 books, each dealing with a different couple.

Maverick Brac has formed a pack of his own, and they all have one thing in common, the preference for men. Each book takes us through one of the pack meeting their mate and the problems that follow. 'Cause, you know, even happy every after can start out on shaky ground.

The Vampire's Mail Order Bride by Kristen Painter
Nocturne Falls, 2015, ebook

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year. The tourists think it’s all a show: the vampires, the werewolves, the witches, the occasional gargoyle flying through the sky. But the supernaturals populating the town know better.

Living in Nocturne Falls means being yourself. Fangs, fur, and all.

Sebastian Ellingham isn’t known for being a happy vampire. And when his long estranged wife returns expecting to pick up where they left off, things take a sharp turn toward cranky. Sure he’s been protecting her for centuries, but her assumption that he’s still available (he is) rankles.

His answer is to hire a woman to play his fiancĂ©e. The lucky victim is Tessa Blythe, sister of one of the town’s deputies, librarian in need of a job and, oh yes, reluctant Valkyrie. Playing along with Sebastian is all about the end game: earning the position of Dean of Library Studies at the local private academy.

When unexpected sparks fly between them, they agree to mutually deny the attraction. Fate, however, has other plans…

A weekly Monday meme hosted by Shelia at Book Journey. Post what you read last week and what you're planning to read this week then link to Shelia's post. Then visit others and be prepared to add to your TBR pile!

Most of these are between 100 and 200 pages with quite a few under 100 pages. I got more read this month then Jan and Feb. The sad thing is that I got more of other things done in Jan Feb! So April better not have as many pages read.
