I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Protecting the royal family is Linus Murati's job. So when the queen's younger sister is attacked, the devoted Lydian royal guardsman goes into action and saves her life. But this was no random occurrence. Danger has followed Julia Miller across the Atlantic from Seattle. Now Linus has two missions: to keep the maddeningly independent future duchess in his sights at all times, and to catch the culprit who threatens the woman whose trust—and love—he desires above all others.

"Rachelle McCalla writes books with kissing, praying, and dead bodies." How perfect is that?

This is the second series with the country of Lydia as the backdrop. The first was Reclaiming the Crown and now it is time to Protect it. This book had everything I'd expect from a book set in Lydia. Kidnapping, murder, cross continent flights plus kisses as well prayer. And of course, there was a happy ending. At least for now.

There was references to the first series to remind us of what went before but it was more of an explanation of why things are how they are now so I'm sure if you've read the others recently it won't be tiresome. On the other hand, it has been a while for me so the reminders were more of a "oh, yeah" reminder. I don't know how you'd do jumping in right here.

Protecting the Crown series:
A Royal Marriage, December 2012
Defending the Duchess, March 2013
Royal Heist, July 2013
The Secret Princess, October 2013

I'm looking forward to July and October but it looks like I need to read A Royal Marriage! Darn, it, guess I'm going shopping ;-)
