I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

The goal for this challenge is to read a book for each letter in the year. That's right, a title for the J in January and the A in January, etc.... 74 books total, YIKES! This is a two-year challenge: April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2019. I've done it twice now, time to sign up for it again!

I am hosting but the challenge has it's own blog so posts don't get lost. Why don't you check out the rules and join me?

New Adult Reading Challenge

New Adult
Reading Challenge
2017

hosted at Ashleyz Wonderland
for more information or to sign up, click here

per Goodreads:
New Adult fiction bridges the gap between Young Adult and Adult genres. It typically features protagonists between the ages of 18 and 30.

The genre tends to focus on issues prevalent in the young adult genre as well as focusing on issues experienced by individuals between the area of childhood and adulthood, such as leaving home for university and getting a job.

New adult is typically considered a subcategory of adult literature rather than young adult literature.

I'm not the target audience for new adult but considering I still read picture books, I figured I'd go for it. There are several levels but I'm going for . . . level 1 . . . and hope to read 1-10 books that fit.

Any format, length is not listed, reviews aren't necessary. Any sub-genre of new adult is acceptable. You can make a list but you don't need to stick to it. You can move up a level but not down. (well, I can't get more down ;-) but maybe I'll move up)

Hosted by Corinne

For more information or to sign up, click here

Challenge yourself to read more this year than last year. Any format, any genre. Re-reads and challenge cross-overs allowed. Books that are 100 pages (give or take) count.

There are several levels. You can go up but not down.

Number of Books Read out of My Goal for the Year
2013: 168 out of 200 (Didn't keep track of 100+ pages for 2012)

2015: 170 out of 227 :-(
2016: 214 (as of 12-30) out of 181-185

Because, really, I read 30 books in December and I've got one more day!

Goal for 2017: 211-215 as of Dec 28, I've still got time for one more book ;-)
edit Dec 30: changed level and goal, 191-196 books read in 2017, 16-17 books per month.

Read the Books You Buy Reading Challenge

Read the Books You Buy
Reading Challenge
2017

hosted by the Book Date

for more information or to sign up, click here

Basically, if you bought the book during 2017, read the book during 2017! Books bought since June 2016 count too but not earlier. Any format. You decide if gifts count, library books do NOT.

The levels are percentages, so pick a level, keep a list of new purchases, and start reading!

I'm going for . . . Money sitting on the Shelf . . . and hope to read up to 20% of my newest books. I'm not going to count free books (amazon's free bestseller books anyone?)

Because of another challenge, new purchases in Jan-Mar can't be read but the list of 2016 books can be.

For a list of books purchase Jun-Dec 2016, click here.
For a list of books purchased during 2017, click here. . . . both links broken because I'm working on updating them.

Read 52 books in 52 Weeks

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks
Reading Challenge
2017

hosted here
for more information click here, and to sign up click here.

The goal is to read 52 books. How you get there is up to you. Our book week starts on Sunday.

Children's books won't count for me but something like Harry Potter/Percy Jackson would. Just not the younger stuff and certainly not picture books. Different rules apply if there is a child involved.

Getting to 52 is not the problem, it is the one a week part that I sometimes have trouble with but that's what I'm going for this year. Again.

There are several mini-challenges listed, across the top, and I'd like to do one or two, I'm just not sure which one(s) yet.

Mini-Challenges:
Dusty
Chunky
Bingo
Birthstone Bookology
Well Educated Mind
other mini-challenges will show up during the year

Progress Links:
1st quarter | 2nd quarter | 3rd quarter | 4th quarter | Final Report

When I counted up the books over 100 pages that I've read so far this year, I hit 75. Even if I take out the four I've read in April, I'm still over 52.

You can also download the game board so you can cross off the months.

The idea is to read outside your comfort zone. Each month has a genre assigned to it, sub-genres count. To stretch yourself even more, read a level you don't usually read. Always read adult books? Go for a middle grade book!

Woo Hoo, let's start the year off with a BANG! My goals are going to be different this time. Usually I just pick a number of books and/or pages. This time my plan is more specific
  • read, and review, an ARC
  • A Sherlock Holmes story
  • something for a monthly challenge
  • something for a challenge other than print/audio/ebook
Only three or four? Yeah, the number is no problem, it's the specific requirements that is! Only the Sherlock Holmes story is a have-to-read-this-week, three of the others just need to be read during the month.

Day 2
2017 in Pictures - here

Share your goals/plans/etc. for 2017 with your fellow #boutofbooks-ers. These could be book goals, life goals, or goals for ANYTHING you're looking to tackle in 2017. Day 3
Book to Movie

Have a book you think would make an excellent movie? Now's your chance to share it! Go as big or as simple as you want. Share fanart, casting choices, or just a book or series you think would be OUTSTANDING on the big screen. Use the hashtags #BoBBookToMovie and #boutofbooks to share your picks!

Witches and Witchcraft Reading Challenge

 #1Witches and Witchcraft

hosted at Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf
for more information or to sign up, click here

Books must include a witch as a main character or includes major witchcraft elements counts.

They may be fiction or non-fiction. However, they should not be reference books which are not read cover to cover-I will leave this to your discretion.

Any format, full length. Have asked if 100 pages counts.

I signed up for Maiden last year but I've only got five of the books read. I've got enough on my tbr pile for Crone but I'm going for Maiden again and hope to read 6-10 books.

#2 Witchy Fiction

social media: #WitchyFictionChallenge

This is a fiction only challenge but any sub-genre works but books must be about witches, wizards, magick, supernatural creatures, psychic powers, the paranormal, and so on.

~ Books Read #1 - some overlap ~

~ Books Read #2 - some overlap ~

. . . . I searched my amazon order history for "Witch". I had planned on adding the titles here but I got 7 pages! Granted the ones above were included but still. I'm not sure all the witches involved are good witches or even if they're main characters. Guess I'll find out as I'm reading

Contemporary Romance
Reading Challenge
2017

hosted at Andi's ABCs

for more information or to sign up, click here

social media: #ContRom2017

The goal is to read as many contemporary romance books as you can.

Books can be any format but should be close to 100 pages or more. Fiction only for this one.

New Adult and young adult count along with adult books. Not just for M/F as F/F and M/M count too. . . . um, wondering if poly counts too ;-)

Just remember, paranormal, historical, mystery/suspense/thriller, time-travel, fantasy, or science fiction, type romances don't count for this one.

There's more information on the sign up pages.

As most of my romance reading falls in the "doesn't count" category, I'm going for . . . 2nd Base . . . and hope to read 6-10 books. I may be able to move up a level as I've started a new series

Basically, pick how many books you're going to read each month (1-4) and which books you're going to read. Report in quarterly.

I know I read a lot but this challenge wants us to pick when and what. I don't usually do that, I'm too much of a mood reader, so I'm going for 12 books this year. I'll need to read one a month and specify which book I'll be reading which month. This also requires a shelf on Goodreads to track progress. I'll have 7 days to report each quarter. During the 2nd quarter's report, I can change one month's assignment.

Yikes!

Sherlock Holmes Challenge

Sherlock Holmes
Reading Challenge
2017-2018

hosted at noonlight reads

for more information or to sign up, click here

The idea is to read ALL of Sherlock Holmes in chronological order. That's right, 56 short stories and 4 novels.

The pace will be a week per short story and 3 weeks for each novel but other schedules are allowed. The order to follow can be found here, with few changes.

So, since I do own The Complete Sherlock Holmes, I thought I'd give this a try. The sad thing that as it's all one book, I can't count it until it's finished and if I don't finish it in one year, it doesn't count at all. Not a problem, it's just one book right? Yeah, and 1,874  pages! Well, I'll may count the stories that have their own ISBN for other challenges.

I guess I'll be writing down the titles as I finish them. It's a start

Jan 1 - The Gloria Scott - Jan 3
Jan 8 - The Musgrave Ritual - Jan 23
Jan 15 - The Speckled Band (and Color Coded) - Jan 27
