I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks - first quarter

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks
Reading Challenge
2017

hosted here
for more information click here, and to sign up click here.

The goal is to read 52 books. How you get there is up to you. Our book week starts on Sunday.

Children's books won't count for me but something like Harry Potter/Percy Jackson would. Just not the younger stuff and certainly not picture books. Different rules apply if there is a child involved.

Getting to 52 is not the problem, it is the one a week part that I sometimes have trouble with but that's what I'm going for this year. Again.

There are several mini-challenges listed, across the top, and I'd like to do one or two, I'm just not sure which one(s) yet.

~ First Quarter ~
Jan 1 - Put a Ring on It by K. A. Mitchell
Jan 8 - Stupid Mistletoe by Joyee Flynn
Jan 15 - Dare You To by Riley Hart
Jan 22 - Dewey by Joyee Flynn
Jan 29 - Fish Stick Fridays by Rhys Ford
Feb 5 - A Solid Core of Alpha by Amy Lane
Feb 12 - Weight for Happiness by Jason Collins
Feb 19 - Turkey in the Snow by Amy Lane
Feb 26 - All Cats are Gray by Andre Norton
Mar 5 - Bootilicious by Shea Balik
Mar 12 - Together Again by Aiden Bates
Mar 19 - Crushed by A.R. Steele
Mar 26 - Finding My Forever by Michele Nataro

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks Reading Challenge Wrap-up

52 in 52
Reading Challenge
2013

Hosted by Robin of My Two Blessings
at Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks.

I need to pay more attention to what I'm reading. . . or at least take notes!

~ End of Year Wrap-up ~

1. How many books did you read and did you meet or beat your own personal goal?
~ I've read 155 books over 100 pages with a total number of isbn read: 256. I was hoping to read 200 books over 50 pages (no picture books) so I'm not sure I met my goal or not.

2. What are your top 5 (or more) favorite stories? Top 5 least favorites?
~ The problem with reading that many books/pages, you don't always remember specific ones. That being said, A Soldier's Choice by D. L. Warner was read twice this year and last. also read last year, two of the Harper Hall books (Dragonsinger, Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey) was read this year and last also but only one time. I also liked The Extra-Ordinary Princess by Carolyn Q. Ebbitt more than I thought I would.

As for least favorite . . . several that I didn't finish but only one stands out. Nothing to Lose by Lee Child

3. One book you thought you would never read and was pleasantly surprised you liked it?
~

4. Most thrilling unputdownable book?
~  Subterranean by James Rollins and most of the Jack Reacher books by Lee Child

5. Did you come across a story that you enjoyed it so much, you turned around and read it again or plan on rereading it again in 2014?
~

6. One book you thought you would love, but didn't?
~ Nothing to Lose by Lee Child. This was book 12 in a series I was loving but I thought Reacher was doing something so stupid I couldn't finish the book.

7. Which book or books had the greatest impact on you this year?
~

8. Do you have a favorite cover or quote from a story you'd like to share?
~

9. What book would you recommend everyone read?
~

10. What was your most favorite part of the challenge? Did you do any of the mini challenges?
~ checking out what everyone else is reading. It encourages me to write more reviews. I did the A to Z challenge (completed), Book Buying Ban (failed), Dusty (12 out of 12), Chunky (3 out of 4).

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks Wrap Up

As the year winds to a close, so does the Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks Reading Challenge. Check out the wrap-up post to see how everyone did this year.

Robin has posted some great questions but I'm not sure I can answer most of them. 1 & 2 were easy but I don't have a listing of all the books. I also didn't list page numbers or genres. I had planned on doing so for 2013, now I know I need to.

If you'd like to check out my list(s), follow the links.

JAN :: FEB :: MAR :: APR :: MAY :: JUN :: JUL :: AUG :: SEP :: OCT :: NOV :: DEC

1) How many books did you read this year?
~ 262

2) Did you meet or beat your own personal goal?
~ No. Yes, I read 52 books this year but I didn't get my one a week goal.

3) Favorite book of 2012? (You can list more than one or break it down by genre)

4) Least favorite book of 2012 and why?

5) One book you thought you'd never read and was pleasantly surprised you like it?

6) One book you thought you'd love but didn't?

7) One book that touched you - made you laugh, cry, sing or dance.

8) Any new to you authors discovered and you can't wait to read more of their stories?

9) Name the longest book you read? Shortest?

10) Name the most unputdownable book you read?

11) Book that had the greatest impact on you this year?

12) What book would you recommend everybody read?

13) Share your most favorite cover(s)

14) Do you have a character you fell in love with?

15) What was your most favorite part of the challenge? Did you do any of the mini challenges? What are your goals for the new year? To read more non fiction? To dip your toes into a mystery or a urban fantasy? What book are you most looking forward to reading in 2013?

I did do the A-Z by title mini challenge. I have three books on order for 2013, one of which is Peach Pies and Alibis by Ellery Adams (cozy with a touch of paranormal)

Reading/book goals for next year? Read more from my own library. Read and review! Read more non fiction. Read more classic type books

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks Reading Challenge

52 in 52
Reading Challenge
2013

Hosted by Robin of My Two Blessings
at Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks.

 Requirements:
  • The challenge will run from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013
  • Our book week will begin on Sundays
  • Participants may join at any time.
  • All books are acceptable except children books.**
  • All forms of books are acceptable including e-books, audio books, etc.
  • Re-reads are acceptable as long as they are read after January 1, 2013.
  • Books may overlap other challenges.
  • Create an entry post linking to this blog (link after the 1st).
  • Come back and sign up with Mr. Linky in the "I'm participating post" below this post (link after the 1st).
  • You don't have a blog to participate.  Post your weekly book in the comments section of each weekly post.
  • Mr. Linky will be added to the bottom of the weekly post for you to link to reviews of your most current reads.

All the mini challenges are optional. Mix it up anyway you like. The goal is to read 52 books. How you get there is up to you.

**in reference to children books. If it is a child whose reading it and involved in the challenge, then that's okay. If an adult is doing read aloud with kids, the book should be geared for the 9 - 12 age group and above and over 100 pages. If adult reading for own enjoyment, then a good rule of thumb to go by "is there some complexity to the story or is it too simple?" If it's too simple, then doesn't count.

The first year I did this I was all about the numbers. The next year I tried to read a book a week. Vacation interfered with that so I'm going for that again for 2013. Also, all the books I read for the 52 must be 100 pages or longer. No more Sips ;-)

Reading Challenge - Completed!

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks
2011
Hosted at it's own blog

Challenge Completed
June 3, 2011

My original post about the challenge

Quick recap:
read 52 books during 2011

Final List:
check out the original post for details

This challenge was more stressful for me than I thought it should be. I originally thought it was a book a week and I missed week 5! Realizing it was 52 a year made it much easier to complete. I've joined again for 2012 and am hoping to actually read one a week (and them some)

Reading Challenge Wrap-Up Questions asked by Robin

Did you reach the goal of 52 books or did you manage to beat your own personal best?
- Yes to the 52 but no to the personal best.

What book are you ending the year with?
- Currently reading The More the Terrier, and
- Before I Fall, and
- Nitt Witt Hill
- BUT, I think my last book recorded was So This is Christmas

Did you discover a new author or genre? Did you love them or hate them?
- lots of new authors, way more then I would have read without challenges. I liked most of them.

Did you challenge yourself to read more non fiction if prefer fiction or more fiction if you prefer non fiction?
- I read at least four memoirs and a couple of non-fiction that I wouldn't have picked up except for blogging. I plan on reading 5 memoirs next year and have several non-fiction on my TBR list

Did you read from a list or wing it?
- yes. ;) I had a list but more often then not, I'd pick up what sounded good.

How many classics did you read? What did you think of the writing style or author?
- classics {shudder} not good with classics but two are on my TBR list for 2012. Oh, wait, there was a kate something short story....it was weird.

Name one book that you thought you'd never read and was pleasantly surprised you like it.

What are your top ten favorite books?

What are your ten least favorite books?

Did you start any books that you just simply couldn't finish?
- Quickstep to Murder (hoping to try again in 2012, we'll see)

What did you think of the mini challenges and did you join in or complete any?
- No, but I have a Mind Voyages list (from when it was it's own challenge) and am doing the A to Z mini-challenge in 2012.

Did your family join in on the fun?
- no, they don't read like I do. They all read but not quite at this level.

How many books have you added to your wishlist since the beginning of the year?
- lol

What was your favorite thing about the challenge?
- reading the weekly posts

Reading Challenge - Two Completed!

Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks
January 1, 2011 - December 31, 2011

Challenge Completed
June 3, 2011

My original post about the challenge
Quick recap:
Read 52 books during 2011. It breaks down to one a week but she said it didn't matter how we got there....just read 52 books!

Final List:
Jan-Mar can be found here and Apr-Jun can be found here

I really stressed about this challenge because I was going for the one a week. I thought I had failed since I missed two weeks but that isn't the case at all. She broke it down to one a week because that is a good way of looking at it. Nevermind the weird ones like me ;-)

Will I repeat the challenge next year? I don't know. I know I'll read the 52 books but don't know if I'll join the challenge officially.

~~AND~~

Paranormal/Fantasy Romance

Duty of a Beta by Kim Dare ~ shifter
Luke's Surprise by Lavinia Lewis ~ shifter
A Modern Witch by Debora Geary ~ magic
Christmas Magic by Kallysten ~ magic

I'll always read paranormal/fantasy but if I cut back on the total number of challenges joined, this will be one cut. Sorry. That being said, I just have to remember the plan come the end of the year ;-)

Reading Challenge Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks

Reading 52 books in a year should not be a problem, it's the one a week that might do me in as I went weeks without reading during 2010.

Robin has a dedicated blog for this challenge so read the requirements and head over to the sign up page

The rules are very simple and the goal is to read one book (at least) a week for 52 weeks.

1. The challenge will run from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
2. Our book weeks will begin on Sunday.
3. Participants may join at any time.
4. All books are acceptable except children books.**
5. All forms of books are acceptable including e-books, audio books, etc.
6. Re-reads are acceptable as long as they are read after January 1, 2011.
7. Books may overlap other challenges.
8. Create an entry post linking to this blog.
9. Come back and sign up with Mr. Linky in the "I'm participating post" below this post.
10. You don't have a blog to participate. Post your weekly book in the comments section.
11. Mr.

If adult reading for own enjoyment, then a good rule of thumb to go by "is there some complexity to the story or is it too simple?" If it's too simple, then it doesn't count.

52 Books in 52 Weeks wrap-up?

This was a no-brainer for me but that doesn't mean I followed through on the updates :-(

Robin of My Two Blessings did a wrap-up post and asked some questions.....

Yes, I read 52 books during 2009 -
reviews: 47
re-reads: 112
nonfiction: 10
library books: 38
children/teen: 60
ebooks: 246
titles under 100 pages: 149
titles over 400 pages: 32

Even if you didn't, how many did you manage to read?

Did you discover a new author or a new genre.
I read many new authors and discovered I read almost every genre.

Did you rediscover an old classic or reread a book from years gone by?
I usually re-read.

What book did you finish up the challenge with?
Santa Clawed by Rita Mae Brown

Did you read from a list and fly by the seat of your pants choosing a different book each week?
I had a list this year because of all my challenges but I spent a great amount of time reading off-list. I also didn't complete all my challenges.

What was your favorite book?
LOL

What was your least favorite book?
DNF The Christmas Cookie Killer

Did you learn something new about reading, yourself or a topic you read?
I learned to enjoy nonfiction

What is on your wish list for 2010?
Time? More bookshelves. My wish list at amazon has grown with blogger recommendations

What authors, genres, or books would you like to see spotlighted on the blog for 2010?
Sorry, haven't given it any thought

Just a few questions to think about as we wrap up our reading year. I'll be posting a 2009 Reading Wrap up post shortly on My Two Blessings and will link to it on Mr. Linky. I have a wish for the 2010 Read 52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge. According to the stat counter the blog received 4,391 visits over the past year: 3,596 were first time visitors and 785 were returning visitors. How many commented? About 1%. We have a lot of shy visitors. So, my wish is that you won't be so shy in the future and let us know what you think - about anything you read here on 52 Books. I promise, we won't bite.
I'll try
