I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband
by Julia Quinn
Bridgertons, 2017, mass market paperback

While you were sleeping...

With her brother Thomas injured on the battlefront in the Colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead, she chooses option three and travels across the Atlantic, determined to nurse her brother back to health. But after a week of searching, she finds not her brother but his best friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He's unconscious and in desperate need of her care, and Cecilia vows that she will save this soldier's life, even if staying by his side means telling one little lie...

I told everyone I was your wife

When Edward comes to, he's more than a little confused. The blow to his head knocked out three months of his memory, but surely he would recall getting married. He knows who Cecilia Harcourt is—even if he does not recall her face—and with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be true, even though he'd always assumed he'd marry his neighbor back in England.

If only it were true...

Cecilia risks her entire future by giving herself—completely—to the man she loves. But when the truth comes out, Edward may have a few surprises of his own for the new Mrs. Rokesby.

Merely a Marriage by Jo Beverley

Norris agrees to take a wife on one condition: that Ariana take a husband first. Although she realizes she risks a lifetime in a loveless marriage, for the sake of her family, Ariana accepts his challenge.

When the Earl of Kynaston met Ariana eight years ago, he broke her heart. Since then, his own heart has been broken, and he’s sworn off love...until he sees Ariana all grown-up and his resolve is threatened.

Could Ariana’s bargain with Norris actually lead her to happiness? With real love on the line, she must win over the one man who refuses to be had.

Description:
What's your life worth?

When you're drowning, the last thing you do before you go unconscious is take a breath. The carbon dioxide rises so much in your blood it overpowers the last few molecules of oxygen in your body. You reach your breaking point, then you inhale. I inhaled food my whole life and I reached my breaking point in my battle with weight loss.

Right at the moment I was ready to give up, I had some last thoughts:

What if there were things I believed that weren't true? What if calories in and calories out had exceptions? What if we don't all metabolize food the same? Why can't we successfully lose weight and keep it off? I had to find out - my life depended on it. In my quest to break my weight loss code, the Buffer Zone is the space where I found my truth.

The Buffer Zone diet is the answer to all of these questions and more.

Outdo Yourself Reading Challenge, June

Outdo Yourself
Reading Challenge
2017

Hosted by Corinne

For more information or to sign up, click here

Challenge yourself to read more this year than last year. Any format, any genre. Re-reads and challenge cross-overs allowed. Books that are 100 pages (give or take) count.

There are several levels. You can go up but not down.

Number of Books Read out of My Goal for the Year
2012: didn't keep track of 100+ pages
2013: 168 out of 200
2014: 211 out of 174-178 (then moved up a level!)
2015: 170 out of 227 :-(
2016: 214 (as of 12-30) out of 181-185

I've got real life plans for this year that might interfere with my reading so I'm going for
. . . Out of Breath  . . .
and hope to read 6-10 more books than my 2016 goal.
Because, really, I read 30 books in December and I've got one more day!
181-185 plus 6-10 = 187-195
