I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

The Pickled Piper by Mary Ellen Hughes
Pickled and Preserved mystery, 2014, ebook

After her dreams of romance are crushed, Piper Lamb decides to pursue her dream of opening her own shop of pickles and preserves, called Piper’s Picklings, in the idyllic small town of Cloverdale. But she isn’t in town long before she encounters a barrelful of trouble…

The Cloverdale fair offers Piper a sweet opportunity to promote her business. With her new assistant, Amy, she sets up a booth centered around an eye-catching display of the ever-popular dills in an old-fashioned barrel of brine.

But things soon turn sour when fairgoers witness a fight between Amy’s boyfriend, Nate, and town council blowhard—and bagpipe player—Alan Rosemont. When Rosemont is found floating in Piper’s barrel, Nate becomes the prime murder suspect. With Amy’s boyfriend in a pretty pickle, there’s no time to dillydally. But as Piper searches for the real killer, she needs to be careful to preserve her own life…or she may end up a pickled Piper herself.

Comfort & Joy by Kristin Hannah
fiction, 2005, ebook

Joy Candellaro once loved Christmas more than any other time of the year. Now, as the holiday approaches, she is at a crossroads in her life; recently divorced and alone, she can’t summon the old enthusiasm for celebrating. So without telling anyone, she buys a ticket and boards a plane bound for the beautiful Pacific Northwest. When an unexpected detour takes her deep into the woods of the Olympic rainforest, Joy makes a bold decision to leave her ordinary life behind—to just walk away—and thus begins an adventure unlike any she could have imagined.

In the small town of Rain Valley, six-year-old Bobby O’Shea is facing his first Christmas without a mother. Unable to handle the loss, Bobby has closed himself off from the world, talking only to his invisible best friend. His father Daniel is beside himself, desperate to help his son cope. Yet when the little boy meets Joy, these two unlikely souls form a deep and powerful bond. In helping Bobby and Daniel heal, Joy finds herself again.

But not everything is as it seems in quiet Rain Valley, and in an instant, Joy’s world is ripped apart, and her heart is broken. On a magical Christmas Eve, a night of impossible dreams and unexpected chances, Joy must find the courage to believe in a love—and a family—that can’t possibly exist, and go in search of what she wants . . . and the new life only she can find.

Three Little Words by Melissa Tagg
Walker Family, 2015, ebook

Ava Kingsley and Seth Walker might be the most unlikely friends ever. The only thing these two polar opposites have in common is a knack for wordsmithing. Back in college, they were known for their written sparring in the campus newspaper's popular "He Says/She Says" column.

At their ten-year college reunion, they pick up right where they left off. Except this time their squabbling leads to a surprising turn: friendship and a year-long exchange of emails. So when Ava approaches a crossroads in her athletics department career in Minnesota, Seth is quick to offer the open apartment above the restaurant he's been remodeling in Maple Valley, Iowa.

Ava doesn't know where her career will lead her next, but she's starting to suspect she might see Seth as more than a pen pal. Which would be exciting...except for the fact that he only sees her as a friend.

As Maple Valley grows on her, Ava wonders if there might be something here for her even though Seth is unavailable. And maybe, just maybe, after all the words the two of them have exchanged over the years, they'll finally be able to say the three that matter most.

Viper Game by Christine Feehan
Ghost Walkers, 2015, mass market paperback

GhostWalker Wyatt Fontenot knows the price he paid for the secret military experiments that gave him his special catlike abilities. After all, he left his bayou home a healer and came back a killer. While Wyatt and his GhostWalker brother Gator may have known exactly the sort of game they were getting into, Wyatt never anticipated where it would lead — or to whom.

The swamps hold many mysteries, but few are as sinuously seductive as Le Poivre de Cayenne. The woman the locals call Pepper is every bit as enigmatic as the three little girls she's desperately trying to protect. From what, Wyatt is soon to discover. Right now Pepper needs a man like Wyatt. Passionately. But her secrets are about to take them both deeper into the bayou than either imagined — where desire is the deadliest poison of all.

Tell Me No Lies by Elizabeth Lowell
romantic suspense, 2001, ebook

Lindsay Danner is an expert on Chinese bronzes who has an uncanny ability to separate fake from real. She is also a woman alone whose deeply buried memories bring her to screaming wakefulness in the small hours of the night. In the daytime, she has just one requirement of the people and objects in her life—honesty.

Jacob MacArthur Catlin was known under many names in the past, especially Dragon. Intelligent, ruthless, deadly, he became a legend in the shadow world of spies. His life was constructed of lies, deceit, and treachery. When he left that world, he never looked back. And never wanted to.

Then a man comes to Catlin bearing one half of an ancient Chinese coin. The past comes to dangerous life, a danger the sweeps up Lindsay. She is utterly unprepared for a life of lies. Catlin isn’t. Only working together can they survive layer after layer of deadly lies and shattering truths—and one of those truths is love.

Classics Reading Challenge

This one is hosted by You, Me, and a Cup of Tea. While I'd like to read more classics, I'm not even going to pretend I can read 12 of them AND follow a monthly theme. I wanted you to see it in case you might be interested.

Information/sign up post, here

RC: To Be Read

Challenge #1

The TBR Triple Dog Dare
January - March

 hosted at James Read books
for more information or to sign up, click here

Basically read the books you already own. You can still buy new books, just don't read them yet! Exceptions can be made for book clubs, ARCs, etc.

I don't think I even made it through January but I'm going for all three months and will make exceptions for ebooks, new releases, and ARCs.

Challenge #2
Mount TBR Reading Challenge
2016

hosted by Bev at My Reader's Block, for more information or to sign up, click here

Basically, read the books you already own, in the format that you primarily read from. I read print and ebooks so an audio book wouldn't count for this. Library books do not count. Re-reads are a special circumstance - check the sign up page. Books must be purchased prior to 2016, I need to ask about pre-orders. ;-)  There are several levels but I'm going for Mount Blanc and hope to read 24 books. I've got so many books on my TBR pile I'm not going to try to list any of them, I really should go for Mount Olympus (Mars) and read 150+!  All books, purchased or gifts, count. Not sure about review books but they were given to me and I do own them now. . .

Challenge #3
image2
 TBR Pile

hosted at Bookish Lifestyle
for more information or to sign up, click here

There are several levels, any format, any genre, any length, as long as they aren't 2016's. Reviews too! I'm going for 1-10 books and a Firm Handshake!

Challenge #4
Read My Own Damn Books

hosted at Estella's Revenge
for more information or to sign up, click here

#ReadtheDamnBooksYouAlreadyOwn

She's got 210 unread print books at her house and wants to read 100 of them. I'm not sure I want to know how many are in my TBR pile!

Challenge #5
Shelf Love Challenge
2016

hosted at Second Run Reviews, Chapter Break, and Bookworm Brandee
for more information or to sign up, click here

#ShelfLove

Read the books that are currently in your person library. Library (and textbooks) don't count unless you're getting a different format of a book on your shelf. There are several levels and I'm going for . . .
pat your shelves on the back
. . . . and hope to read 11-20 books.

I'm going to include any book, arc too, that has been on my tbr pile before January 1st. For the first week of the year, I read NONE of them. sigh I also got two new books in the mail and purchased several ebooks. This is why my TBR pile doesn't get any smaller. With so many challenges, I should be able to get one of them completed!

But when the tractor pulling Merry’s float is sabotaged, she has to face facts: there’s a Scrooge in Christmas Town.

Merry isn’t ready to point fingers, especially with a journalist in town writing a puff piece about Rudolph’s Christmas spirit. But when she stumbles upon the reporter’s body on a late night dog walk—and police suspect he was poisoned by a gingerbread cookie crafted by her best friend, Vicky—Merry will have to put down the jingle bells and figure out who’s really been grinching about town, before Vicky ends up on Santa’s naughty list…

But this year, someone's destroying Maddie's precious candy canes! Thank goodness for the cop in their neighborhood.

Tilda already has her hands full trying to sort out her love life and fix up her fixer-upper. Oh, and won't it be fun to have the family over for Christmas dinner? Not really… Then there's her neighbor, Ivy Bohn. As a newly single mom, Ivy can sum up the holiday in two words: Bah, humbug. But she's determined to give her kids a perfect Christmas.

Despite family disasters, irritating ex-husbands and kitchen catastrophes, these three women are going to find out that Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year!

The goal is to read as many romantic suspense titles as you can for 2016. Any format, 100+ pages (give or take), re-reads, cross-overs with other challenges.
