I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

A Timely Challenge!

Better Late Than Never
ARC Challenge

Oct 1 - Dec 31

Hosted by The Windy Pages, Nite Lite Book Reviews and The Reader's Antidote

Sign ups and more information, here

Does looking at your ARC pile stress you out? Do you suffer from NetGalley Guilt? Have you gotten so behind in your ARC reading that older ARCs have gotten pushed aside? Well then this challenge is for you.

The rules are simple.
  • Read as many older review books as you can, making way for the new year and new books!
  • Books may be physical ARCs or digital ARCs.
  • For book to qualify, release date must be at older than 6 months (release date earlier than May 1, 2013)
  • Please do a wrap up post at the end of each month so we can check your progress.
  • And if you are participating, there will most likely be a chance at a prize at the end so keep a look out!

I don't know if I want to tell you how many books I have that are that old! I've got two print and four ebooks that are newish and they also need to be reviewed before the end of the year. I think I'll just list as I go. . . (unless I get upstairs to my shelf)

ARC August Challenge

ARC
Reading Challenge
August

hosted at Read. Sleep. Repeat.    Sign- up here

You really need to go to the sign-up page just to read the conversation Octavia has with us. Here's the basics.

If you’re like me you are probably up to your ears in ARC’s and review request. Scratch that. If you’re like me then at this point there is a giant pool somewhere filled with all the ARC’s and review request you currently have.

Type up a post just saying you’re participating then add your link in the linky below! The post can be as detailed (how many ARC’s you have, etc.) or as simple as you want just make sure your mention this post so other people can join! At the end of ARC August I’ll use Random.org to pick a winner. See! Easy peasy lemon squeezy! So go on! Start sorting through that review pile, get that post written, and sign up!

Yes, I've got a pile to go through but most of it is upstairs and dinner is on the stove. I have no idea how many I'll get to but my goal is four reviews posted. That winner she's mentioned? $20 gift card for more books!

Book Choices (small sample. . . Yikes!)

  • Candy and the Cankersaur by Jason Sandberg
  • 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done by Peter Bregman

In my mailbox!

What do you think of when someone says "soft spot"? A baby's head? Pillow? Mossy spot? Fellow Marine? What!

Yes, stepping on what remains of one your buddy's is "stepping on a soft spot". I received an ARC from St. Martin's Press (thank you Library Thing!) of "Soft Spots A Marine's Memoir of Combat and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder". One man's maddening journey through an indifferent system that promises to care for veterans, but in fact abandons many of them.
