I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

I had a list of 22 books to choose from and I read none of them. That's not to say I didn't get any reading done, just not the books I was thinking about reading before I started. The fun thing is that I read all new books this time and only one wasn't an adult level book :-D

edit: 1,100 pages seems to be about what I read for a read-a-thon so I think I did pretty good considering everything.

~ Books Read ~
The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian
Unmasking Miss Appleby by Emily Larkin
Stowaway in a Sleigh by C. Roger Mader
Zac's Mulligan by Ann Lister

I've got a huge tbr pile and a backlog of books I need to review. I'm also hosting a party at the end of the month and my house (as usual) isn't ready. What's not usual, I'm still got a lot of my Mom's stuff in our family room so I've got to find a place for it (storage/family/donate) :-(

Bout of Books - 2017 in Pictures

Bout of Books
Read-a-Thon
Day 2 Assignment

hosted at Bout of Books

for more information and to sign up, click here

Day 2
2017 in Pictures

Share your goals/plans/etc. for 2017 with your fellow #boutofbooks-ers. These could be book goals, life goals, or goals for ANYTHING you're looking to tackle in 2017. Take a picture of the books you plan on reading this year! Share a vision board of what you're trying to accomplish! Use the hashtags #BoB2017Goals and #boutofbooks and let us cheer you on!

Yesterday's assignment was #insixwords. I was late to the party but I did decide on six words.

Family, Read, Run, Laugh, Read ;-), Pets

Today's assignment is 2017 in Pictures. Sure I could leave it at that but have you ever known me not to talk?

The gray kitty is Frisky. She's the only pet we currently have as Sneakers crossed the rainbow bridge last month. My husband has a limit of two pets at a time. Can't blame him, at one time we had a rabbit, a dog, a cat, a rat, and 3 desert tortoises. Yes, all at the same time ;-)

The books are not mine. My books are scattered all over the house and into a storage unit. sigh. This year, I joined a challenge to read 200 books. Not a problem but most of the ones I read during 2016 were ebooks so I didn't whittle down my stacks much at all!

That leads into the Uncluttered part of my life. I have too many things for the space I have to put them. We've been in this house over 25 years and things have really added up. It's time to whittle stuff down. Including my books darn it but it would be nice to have them all in the house - and accessible!

I current walk/run but am hoping to increase the time spent running this year as well as my speed. I'd also like to do more races with my husband. One of my goals for this year is to "run the year". Yeah, that means 2,017 miles. I didn't make it for 2016 but I'm hoping to double my miles from last year for this year and maybe I can do 2,018 in 2018.

The scale. Yeah, running should help with that also. I plan on lifting this year so the tape measure will come in handy. Measuring cups would have been good here too as what goes in my mouth is as important as how much I move.

That's a crocheted blanket. Well, at that point, it's only half of one ;-) At one time I was crocheting blankets for the pediatric ICU and I'd like to do that again. I also made hats/scarves for homeless shelters. Time to pick up a hook again.

Woo Hoo, let's start the year off with a BANG! My goals are going to be different this time. Usually I just pick a number of books and/or pages. This time my plan is more specific
  • read, and review, an ARC
  • A Sherlock Holmes story
  • something for a monthly challenge
  • something for a challenge other than print/audio/ebook
Only three or four? Yeah, the number is no problem, it's the specific requirements that is! Only the Sherlock Holmes story is a have-to-read-this-week, three of the others just need to be read during the month.

~ Books Read ~
  1. The Adventure of the Gloria Scott by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  2. Alone for Christmas by Ashley John
  3. Wish by Barbara O'Connor
  4. Lost Cat by Roger Mader
  5. Buried Passions by Aiden Bates
  6. Adrenaline Rush by Aiden Bates
  7. Gertrude and Toby Meet the Wolf by Shari Tharp
  8. Screw Santa by Joyee Flynn

~ Possiblities ~
  • Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (Classic Horror)
  • Title has . . . Court, Fall, Of, Way, Deep or Thousand (Monthly Keyword) - Out of the Pocket!
  • Out of the Pocket by Bill Konigsberg (Monthly Keyword, Monthly Motif, and Homework Assignment)
  • 1984 by George Orwell (Sci-fi, Banned/Challenged, and What in a Name?)
  • an ARC - Gertrude and Toby Meet the Wolf? or see Blogger Shame
  • The Man with the Golden Gun (This Island Reader and Color Coded)
  • Valentine Kittens anthology (In a Year and What an Animal)
  • The Gloria Scott by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes)

Day 1
Introduce Yourself #insixwords

The challenge is simple: introduce yourself on Twitter, Instagram, or on this post using six words, no more, no less. Use the hashtags #boutofbooks and #insixwords so we can learn all about you.

BONUS: Share a picture of your smiling face or your bookshelves! (You can learn a lot about a person from their bookshelves!)

Day 2
2017 in Pictures - here

Share your goals/plans/etc. for 2017 with your fellow #boutofbooks-ers. These could be book goals, life goals, or goals for ANYTHING you're looking to tackle in 2017. Take a picture of the books you plan on reading this year! Share a vision board of what you're trying to accomplish! Use the hashtags #BoB2017Goals and #boutofbooks and let us cheer you on!

Day 3
Book to Movie

Have a book you think would make an excellent movie? Now's your chance to share it! Go as big or as simple as you want. Share fanart, casting choices, or just a book or series you think would be OUTSTANDING on the big screen. Use the hashtags #BoBBookToMovie and #boutofbooks to share your picks!

Day 4
Book Spine Poetry

A perennial favorite is back! Go hunting through your books and unleash your inner poet! Use the titles of your chosen books to create a poem. Snap a picture of your creation and share it with the hashtags #BookSpinePoetryBoB and #boutofbooks.

Day 5
If You Like This, Try This

Since we all love recommending books, here's your chance to share the love. Example: If you like paranormal romance with bloodthirsty vikings, try Shelly Laurenston's Call of Crows series. Make sure you use the hashtags #BoBIfYouLikeThis and #boutofbooks on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, so we can see your recs.

Totally flaked on this one. I'm not blogging this summer and I didn't write it down on my paper calendar. If it wasn't for Michelle at the True Book Addict, I wouldn't have even remembered I missed it.

I've got lots of off-line stuff happening this week but I still hope to read 800 pages.

Monday -
finished What Matters Most before bed, doesn't count :-(
started: Ex's & O's by Bailey Bradford (60% finished)

Tuesday -
still reading Ex's & O's at midnight . . . finished before going to bed
started A Bit of Me by Bailey Bradford . . . all part of the same series ;-) (57% finished)

Wednesday -
still reading A Bit of Me at midnight . . . finished
started Hold Me by Susan Mallery (page 29)
started A Bit of You by Bailey Bradford (17%)

Thursday -
still reading Hold Me (page 277) and A Bit of You (25%)
nothing finished, real life (and FB) is interfering with my reading ;-)

Friday -
still reading Hold Me at midnight . . . finished before going to bed
still reading A Bit of You
started/finished Christmas Tree Magic by Amber Kell
started Sheriff Found by Joyee Flynn (60%?)

Saturday -
still reading Sheriff Found by Joyee Flynn at midnight . . . finished before going to bed
still reading A Bit of You by Bailey Bradford (32%)
spent way too much time online plus we went shopping! (we got new furniture)

Sunday -
still reading A Bit of You  . . . wow, I really must not be into this one! :-(
started Amethyst by Lauren Royal

started Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti

and at Midnight . . .
a Bit of You by Bailey Bradford ~ 33%
Amethyst by Lauren Royal ~ page 152
Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti ~ page 17

The Billboard Music Awards show was nice, should have been reading but I just couldn't get comfortable. I really hope the new furniture will be as comfortable to read in at home as it was at the store.

~ Goal: 800 pages ~
finished books: 205+333+377+21+149= 1,085 pages read

~ Books Read ~
1. Ex's and O's by Bailey Bradford - book info
2. A Bit of Me by Bailey Bradford - book info
3. Hold Me by Susan Mallery - chapter one
4. Christmas Tree Magic by Amber Kell - book info
5. Sheriff Found by Joyee Flynn - book info

Monday's Challenge (late)
Bookish Survey at Writing My Own Fairy Tale

The Questions:

1. How do you organize your shelves?
. . . Right now they're a mess and a lot are boxed up in storage. Eventually I'll get the two bedrooms redone and I'll be able to separate them by reading level then genre, except for some authors (for example, all of Anne/Todd McCaffrey's books will be together). I'd like to have a spot just for Christmas books.

2. What is one of your favorite book that’s not in one of your favorite genres?
. . . a favorite book? Not sure I can narrow it down to just one.

3. What is the last 5 star book you read?
. . . Red by Michael Hall was an awesome picture book that has a deep meaning for everyone but I'm going to have to go with A Circle of Souls by Preetham Grandhi. This one scared the heck out of me even reading it again a year later!

4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?
. . . I don't have a set list of books to read, wait a minute, Hold Me by Susan Mallery or Forgotten Sins by Rebecca Zanetti are both sitting by my reading chair. Still not sure if I'll get to them this week.

5. What book do you recommend the most?
. . . there are a couple. Mistaken Identity by Don & Susie Van Ryn and Newell, Colleen & Whitney Cerak with Mark Tabb (review) and There's No Such Thing as a Dragon by Jack Kent (review) which is a picture book with a great message.

Saturday's Challenge (late)
Favorite Read Photo at Once Upon a Chapter

I'm going to go with Hold Me for two reasons. It's Susan Mallery and Fool's Gold!

There are two more books coming soon in this series, Kiss Me in June and Thrill Me in July ~ happy dance~

... I also have more real life things going on then usual so I'm not sure if I'll get any goals done! I just hope I can get at least one review ready.

edit to add "starting point"

Why I Love Geeks by T.A. Chase
The Christmas Cat anthology
Secret Fire by Morticia Knight

~ Final Report ~
I was able to check off two of my books and have made progress on a third. I would have made much better progress on my list if I hadn't read five books that weren't on the list. And then I spent too much time reading an online serial that doesn't even count!

I am happy to report that I got 1,175 pages read AND some of my real life stuff ;-) Plus, both cats are fine.

My Feisty Kitten by Joyee Flynn
My Spotted Dream by Joyee Flynn
and 48% of Seducing Cinderella by Gina L. Maxwell (didn't include in page count)

~ Pages Read 2,026! ~

That's twice what I was going for which is great on the reading end but not so great on the exercise end. I did go to Disneyland Friday and we didn't ride the tram from or to the parking garage but still, I've got to walk every day.

All but two were re-reads. Lara was a new author and for the 101 Fantasy Project challenge. My Spotted Dream was #8 and the last title in the series except a major conflict weaving through all 8 books was left unresolved. There were also several brothers left unmated so it could go on. . .

edit: Seducing Cinderella is also a new read
