I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Love Finds You in Frost, Minnesota by Judy Baer
Christmas romance, 2013, ebook

Considering that her name is Merry Noel Blake and she was born on Christmas Day, it’s not surprising that Frost, Minnesota’s newest resident is crazy about the holiday. She has single handedly convinced the entire town to help her turn Frost into a Christmas destination; there are decorations on every corner, a life-size nativity, the lutefisk dinner at church, and Merry’s own holiday boutique. So imagine her excitement when a man named Jack Frost walks into her shop one day! Jack might be rich and handsome, but the weather seems to chill by a few more degrees when he arrives in town. For Jack has come back to reclaim his family’s land—despite the fact that it is home to many of Frost’s residents. Worse, he has deep, personal reasons for spurning holiday festivities and is determined to cut the town’s Christmas spectacle down to size. But Merry believes that below Jack’s frosty exterior is a warm heart—and that she is the one to thaw it.

Bless Her Dead Little Heart by Miranda James
A Southern Ladies Mystery, 2014, mass market paperback

With the Mississippi sun beating down, An’gel and Dickce are taking a break to cool off and pet sit their friend Charlie Harris’s cat, Diesel, when their former sorority sister, Rosabelle Sultan, shows up at their door unexpectedly, with her ne’er-do-well adult children not far behind.

Rosabelle’s selfish offspring are desperate to discover what’s in her will, and it soon becomes clear that one of them would kill to get their hands on the inheritance. Suddenly caught up in a deadly tangle of duplicitous suspects and deep-fried motives, it will take all of the sisters' Southern charm to catch a decidedly ill-mannered killer. . .

Deryni Rising by Katherine Kurtz
Chronicles of the Deryni, 2008, mass market paperback

In the kingdom of Gwynedd, the mysterious forces of magic and the superior power of the Church combine to challenge the rule of young Kelson. Now the fate of the Deryni -- a quasi-mortal race of sorcerers -- and, indeed, the fate of all the Eleven Kingdoms, rests on Kelson's ability to quash the rebellion by any means necessary . . . including the proscribed use of magic!

~*~ autographed gift from the author ~*~
My Nora by Holley Trent
romance, 2013, trade paperback

When painter Manora Fredrickson left Baltimore for a fixer-upper located in her ancestral Tyner, North Carolina, she figured she'd be getting away from the distractions of the city: the noise, the crime, the event invitations . . . her ex-husband. Happy to be a recluse at age twenty-eight, all Nora wants to do is paint, lick her wounds, and maybe sneak across the county line for some of Hattie's artery-clogging fried chicken.

Enter Matthew Vogel. His little piece of Tyner abuts Nora's and from the moment the consummate bachelor stops by her barn to find her dancing around like a Jersey City showgirl, he decides the spunky firecracker is the woman for him. Nora doesn't agree, but she can't get the brawny fisherman off her mind or her doorstep. As much as Nora is attracted to her charming neighbor, she thinks Matt deserves better than a curmudgeonly hermit. Her last marriage fell apart because of her commitment to her art. Matt wants to convince her it won't happen again - not with him.
