I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Let's start with a quick note to wish all who celebrate Thanksgiving a....

and if you don't - have a great weekend. I'll be spending the day with extended family on Thursday and Friday (his side/my side)

I was away for less than a week and my in-laws came over to feed the cats. Frisky would say hi and if you sat down she was all over you but they only saw Sneakers once. Guess what happened when I got home and sat down. . .

the zebra stripe is a blanket over my lap :-)

Fall Fashion - Southern California Style (it was after 9 p.m.)
I'm standing where we parked. Can you see the end?

yeah, I went to Disneyland in these shoes!
M and I went to the local Disney store but the Christmas ornaments we wanted were only sold at the parks or on line. No problem, we'll just go to Disneyland (love the annual pass!) the only problem being the shoes I wore for dinner/shopping were NOT what I'd wear to Disney. I'm just glad M dropped me off so I only had to walk this far once.

It is with a sense of great joy and inner drive that I have maintained my running on every level from the day-to-day training to the remarkable events like the Olympic Games.
Joan Samuelson's Running for Women
Joan Samuelson and Gloria Averbuch

Thoughts: For those who don't know (I didn't) Joan won the Boston Marathon in 1979 and 1983, then entered the first women's marathon in the Olympic Games, capturing Gold, in 1984. As the book was published in 1995, I'm in awe that she would be that enthused about running ten years after winning Gold.

Some of the information may be outdated but I'm hoping her excitement about runnring comes through

The gently rounded foothills of the Cheviot Hills gathered him in like a mother's arms; Wolverstone Castle, his childhood home and newly inherited principle estate, lay close by the village of Alwinton, beyond Harbottle.
Mastered by Love
Stephanie Laurens

Thoughts: First, sorry for not adding title/author last week.

The area sounds peaceful. Not only the gently rounded foothills but the mother's arms comment too. Newly inherited principle estate sounds like a recent death in the family and lots of money.

This is another Regency romance and as I just finished this one, I can tell you the death of the Duke happened two days ago.

This one too will find the male lead looking for the perfect wife. There will be a wedding, danger and happy ever after.

Before we get to the pictures.... Son mentioned that  one of the other Oz books does follow the red brick road but it doesn't lead to a happy place. Now, on to the pictures!

Tall, dark-haired, and dangerously handsome, he prowled the ton with the lazy grace of a well-bred panther whose appetites were perennially sated, as, indeed he ensured they were.
Thoughts: First, that's a lot of commas! Second, waving fan, if this is only the prologue how hot will the rest of the book be?

I read a lot of Regency Romance and this sounds like a lot of the male main characters. I can tell that he's a rogue, out for his pleasure but making sure she comes along. He usually avoids all "pretty, young things" (and their Mamas!) as he wants nothing to do with marriage. Yet.

I can also tell you that he'll find the perfect for him woman. She'll be in some kind of danger and be too independent to want anything to do with him.

It will also end with a wedding and a happily ever after.

Now I need to read the book. That is what we do. Just because you know the basic story, there are lots of bumps along the way to make each story unique.

perfect warning, I just want to sink my fingers into the fur!
I've wondered this too

great idea but those who need this most won't care and their kids may not have the option or even know there is one

By the age of ten, I'd already figured out that when my older brother and I got in trouble, whomever Dad caught first was going to get it the worst.

Running on Empty
Marshall Ulrich

Thoughts: This is a lousy sentence to use for this! The book is about a man running across the United Stated. True, he learned to run faster than his brother to avoid punishments but that really doesn't due justice to the book.

Take your current read, or book you previously finished, and tell me the following 3 things about it.
1. Character from the book you LOVE (This can be a character you want as your BFF or someone you want to take home to meet the parents)
2. Character from the book you HATE (This character does not have to be the villian, just someone you disliked)
3. Your overall LOVE/HATE of the book. (If you haven't decided your feelings for the book yet, or if you prefer, just provide a snippet from the book containing either the word "LOVE" or "HATE")
and, where the story is located for those of us doing the 50 States challenge. ;)

sorry, I don't have anything for this week.

It gave him time to speak to every man who could keep rhythm and pitch, and they all give him the same answer.
Thoughts: What is the answer? What was the question?

This is an old favorite and while the dead must have a song, it isn't a girl's proper place to sing it. She does :)
