I treasured this time alone on Margo's estate every year--at least, I had before. Maybe they were right, maybe it wasn't safe anymore.

Willing my tense, tired body to relax, and comforted slightly by the gun under my pillow, I lay awake a long time, listening, remembering...

It’s not every day a girl gets attacked by an ogre. They really aren’t as vicious and bloody-thirsty as people think. They just look grumpy all the time, because it’s part of their demeanor. I’m convinced that inside they’re really just big, smelly softies who love hugs and melt at the sight of puppies.

That’s why I was so surprised when one strangled me.
