Turns out the other challenge may not work out so I'm jumping over to Herding Cats and Burning Soup. There may be some pictures from my stash but most of them will need to be new. Crossing my fingers I can get them all done.

Saturday Snapshot and E is for . . .

Damage done in the 1994 Northridge quake near Magic Mountain

E is for earthquake.

There was a 5.1 earthquake a week ago. One of several quakes to hit the La Habra area and while I'm not in La Habra, I am close enough that there was some rocking going on and it was really loud.

There was no structural damage and minimal damage to contents at my place. Surprisingly enough none of my bookcases fell over and only two books fell off shelves.

Dang, I'm not sure you can read this. M and I were walking from Disneyland to California Adventures when I saw a family with matching shirts. No big deal, there are always groups that match, it is easier to find each other that way. The difference was that I had to read the t-shirts and laughed out loud. . . . "If you have been reading this shirt for longer than 20 minutes, this line is too long!"

And since is was a nice day in April, Spring break for many and a holiday for many. . . there were a LOT of lines that were too long.

The family was driving to dinner and I was telling them about a photo another blogger had posted about a snow storm in South Dakota. My husband looks at me and taps the dash.

As you can see, almost 5 p.m. and it's still 94!

91 Day De-Clutter Challenge

Mary is walking us through our homes, helping us to purge, purge, purge! We aren't doing any deep cleaning this time around, we're just going through and getting rid of the extras...

This week's challenge goal was to go through the kitchen, pantry and dining room. Yikes!! I don't have an actual dining room, just an area with a table so that part was easy. The pantry? Nope, not even going to show you that. It is a walled off section in the garage that I can't even walk in right now. My son is able to reach for the stuff I need, if I know exactly where it is so I guess that's something.

I did go through one drawer. . . yeah, I know, one drawer is nothing compared to how fabulous some of the other posts are. I did clean out the fridge but I do that before trash day most weeks.

After going through this drawer, I realized it would do better in a new location so switched it with this. . .

The towels are supposed to stack but there really isn't room for more than six or eight towels and I have way more than that.



Now, to "fix" this. It started with a new purchase. . .

Purple! :-) A spoon, slotted spoon, spatula and a spoonula. All heat resistant to 400°F and not metal (we still have some coated cookware). Then we found a (purple!) slotted turner and were able to get rid of the old one.

I cleared out the drawer and put everything in a box before going through stuff. I found FOUR cookie scoops. Two different sizes, one pair matched, they're the ones I kept.

 These are the things I got rid of (sorry for such a lousy photo!)

Several of these are still "good" but I have duplicates or don't like them. The potato masher is actually cracked, I don't know why it it stil...yes I do, it was hiding in the back of the drawer and I hardly ever saw it.

These are the things we're still thinking about, some I don't know what they do!

My kitchen and pantry have a LLOOOOONNNNG way to go but I'm happy with my progress, it feels really good so far. Next week we start on kid's room #1 and as I don't have little kids in the house I should be able to work on the dreaded office/black hole of a bedroom.  um, maybe it would be easier to stay in the kitchen for another week ;-)

I walked into my bedroom and heard Sneakers meow. He wasn't on the bed, looked on the floor on the other side...nope. Weird. Where was he? Moved the laundry basket that was sitting on a hamper and...

I'm so glad it wasn't filled with clean clothes! And yes, he's done that before.

This year? Maybe, if it was only non-fiction. No way would it last if I wrote down everything! Luckily I didn't receive one, just took a picture with my cell.

M and I went to our county fair. There was a table decoration display/contest (girl scouts?) and one of the categories was "Bring on the Books". I saw tables decorated based on Hawaii, The Secret Garden, Twenty Leagues Under the Sea, Gone with the Wind, and Fahrenheit 451. I loved Hawaii, three others were nice but Fahrenheit 451 was disturbingly good.


 I saw my first book related table on one side and when I came around to this side, it was obvious which book this was by the background.

It's the details really. The fire boots salt and pepper shaker, the extinguisher and the, gasp, burned books! I think there were several banned books in the pile in back but it wouldn't surprise me if they were from the book, other stories that people were living.

Oh, each table also has a menu to go along with the theme. This menu was grilled this and flame-broiled that...can you read it?

Mike and I went to a county fair yesterday (had a blast). Even though I took my camera, I found that I had taken very few pictures :(

Why, yes, that is a small parrot sharing my dinner!


A group of friends got together at a park and one of the men brought his parrot, Kiwi. Kiwi was on the grass while Emory went to the cars. When Kiwi started eying the chair Emory was last in, my husband sat down and Kiwi jumped up on his leg. Husband asked for a piece of bread from my sandwich and as soon as Kiwi figured out that I had the bread, over he flew.











While we had been sharing our water out of the lid of our water bottle, I was thinking Kiwi wanted something a little bigger..... We got it on video (my new iTouch!) and Kiwi was really having a blast. It was so hot that day, the splash felt good :)

We've now been in this house for 19 Memorial Days. I know this because we moved in in the middle of May and then said "hey, we have a pool, let's have a party" and the family all came over and had a party in our new pool. With packing boxes everywhere!

Soon it was "My children don't ask if we're going to your house anymore, they ask what time". Then it became "one year you're going to decide not to do it and we're going to show up anyways".

One of the best things is jumping off the patio roof into the pool (it's ten feet at the deep end) and why yes, it does look a long way down.....

but it's still fun!

I spent some time at my SIL's home, watching the house and playing with the dogs. I had a great time with Splash and Lucky. I received a thank you phone call (all that I expected). I know she had a better trip knowing the dogs were cared for and I was happy to do it. Imagine my surprise when I received a package in the mail from Splash and Lucky! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Chocolate and book money!

The family went to the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park this week. You may remember it as the Wild Animal Park. We took a truck tour (extra) and were able to feed a giraffe and a couple of Rhinos. Then stopped in the Lorikeet exhibit and got one picture before the camera battery died. For just a little bit, I had four birds on me!
