I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Book Blurb
After seven years, Chester Bailey has called it quits. His divorce has finalized and he’s packed up his life with plans to move to Cade Creek. But fate has a sense of humor, which Chester discovers when he’s involved in a car accident just as he reaches the small country town. Rescue comes in the form of the sexiest fire chief Chester has ever seen…and maybe a new love interest.

Fire Chief Jack Helmond is used to being called to the scene of accidents. It’s part of the job. When he discovers a frightened young man pinned in his car, the job takes on new meaning. Rescuing Chester becomes personal.

But Chester’s past refuses to give up so easily. His ex won’t let a little thing like a new lover or even divorce papers stop him from claiming what he believes is his. If Jack has any hope of keeping the flames of romance burning between him and Chester, he’ll need more than fellow fire fighters to help him. He might need all of Cade Creek.

My Thoughts
Chester hasn't even made it to Cade Creek before we're hit with him thinking about his piercings and that "except for the one in his ear, they're all under his clothes." O_o then we get this. . .
He was tired of people taking one look at him and assuming he was into every kinky thing under the sun. He wasn’t. Over the last couple of years, Chester had in fact learned that he was pretty damn vanilla when it came to his sex life. He didn’t want to be spanked or plugged or led around on a leash. He just wanted to be held and loved and made to feel like he mattered.
This is going to be great!

back to reading . . .

Wow. The story moves along pretty fast but all the elements are there. Boy meets boy, thinks he's marries and backs off. Finds out he's not and jumps him. I mean, it was almost that fast! The jumping part I mean. The other part takes six weeks, just long enough for Chester to buy a building and remodel a couple of apartments into a dream space. A space I'd like to live in (except I need more room for books). There is miscommunication, a dog attack, cooking classes, and Chester's friend Yancy who is with two men but doesn't have his own story.

Chester's ex-husband has a warped sense of what a D/s relationship is and refuses to give him up. He shows up in chapter one at the hospital and I thought that's be the end of it but he comes back THREE more times!

Some times when you read these shorter stories there isn't time to close the loose ends. There were two possible loose ends and I'm only wondering about one of them.

I'm happy to see that book 5 has been submitted and the author has plans for a 6th.
