I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Book Blurb
Carolina Cold Fury star Garrett Samuelson never wants to miss out on a single minute of fun. Whether he’s playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or walking the red carpet with a new date on his arm, he lives every day to the fullest. When he meets Olivia Case, he sees someone who’s exactly his type—confident, sexy, smart . . . his next fling. But the more he pursues her, the more Garrett shares a side of himself that other women don’t normally get to see.

Olivia has been keeping a secret. While Garrett lives for the next thrill, Olivia’s not sure she’ll live to see the next day. She’s undergoing treatment for some serious medical issues, and she doesn’t have time for a relationship with no guarantees—especially one with a hot-as-sin womanizer who won’t take no for an answer. But as she gets to know the real Garrett, Olivia can’t help falling for him . . . hard. To reveal the truth would mean risking everything—but you can’t score without taking the tough shots.

My Thoughts
Garrett was a player during Alex but was willing to be a friend to the "prick" as well as Sutton's younger brother. He seemed like a fun and friendly guy.

Shall we see? . . .

The book starts with Garrett waking up in bed with two models and he doesn't even remember their names! Yeah, he's a player but the prologue rubs that in just a little too hard.

Garrett shows up, late, to the pre-season team party at the coach's house and spots a beautiful woman all by herself. He seems to have a radar for this. After talking to her and getting shut down for a date he hears Alex and Sutton. Sutton's not happy he's after her cousin,
“How come I never knew you had a cousin that was so freaking gorgeous? How did you keep that hidden from me?”

“I kept her hidden with hard work and dedication. I didn’t want her falling prey to the likes of you.”
Ouch. Is he really that bad? Could he have some redeeming value? He told Sutton's cousin he dated the same woman three times once. Then he thought only because she was a doctor and was called into work before "he got in her pants". Dang, he was so nice in the first book, I'm not liking him much now.

Olivia has a boss/co-worker/best friend that give her advice that I think falls under "truth from fiction"
There’s nothing wrong with giving in to your desires. As long as you are both consenting adults, you’re safe, and you have realistic expectations, tell me where is the downside?”
Of course, this is fiction and Garrett is a smokin' hot professional hockey player. Could you have realistic expectations?  ;-) And because this is fiction, she says yes to a date! He has such a good time . . .
Mr. One-Night Stand is going in for the request for a second date.
The secret Olivia is keeping is cancer. It comes up early in the book so this isn't a spoiler. I just want you to know that it is a little hard to read about her doctor appointments. And Garrett has a thing about her hair.

back to reading . . .

There are funny parts and sad parts, slap some sense into you parts, and "MOM!" interruptus parts ;-)

There is a death in the team family but that's not why I'm crying. It isn't even Olivia's cancer although it does factor in. I'm at 84% and don't know if there will be a happy every after.

back to read . . .

I'm going to leave you with that, just remember that we usually know the destination, it's just the journey that changes.
