I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Chunkster Reading Challenge

See what I mean about A Novel Challenge? I was over there looking for a specific challenge and came across this one. I had seen it around last year and noticed a couple of 'I joined' posts in my blog roll, but chunky? I guess I was afraid of this one but you know what? I can do this!

Chunster Reading Challenge
February 1, 2010 - January 31, 2011

Definition of a Chunkster:
A chunkster is 450 pages or more of ADULT literature (fiction or nonfiction) ... A chunkster should be a challenge.

If you read large type books your book will need to be 525 pages or more ... The average large type book is 10-15% longer or more so I think that was a fair estimate.

The Rules:
* No Audio books in the chunkster. It just doesn't seem right. Words on paper for this one folks.
* No e-Books allowed - we are reading traditional, fat books for this challenge.
* Short Stories and Essay collections will not be counted.
* Books may crossover with other challenges
* Anyone may join. If you don't have a blog, just leave me a comment on this post with your progress (and to let me know you are playing)
* You don't need to list your books ahead of time.
* Once you pick a level, that's it...you're committed to that level!
Reviews? "Reviews are not mandatory, but they are strongly encouraged." Two of my books are review books so at least two on the list will be reviewed.

There are three levels to this challenge. From 3 to 6 books over the next 12 months, with cute names for each level. The Chubby Chunkster (3 books), Do These Books Make my Butt Look Big? (4 books) and Mor-book-ly Obese (6 books OR 3 that are over 750 pp). I'm glad books can overlap other challenges and I may read four but no way am I committing to it. I want to be able to complete this one!

I'm going for....
The Chubby Chunkster - this option is for the reader who has a couple of large tomes on their TBR list, but really doesn't want to commit to much more than that. 3 books is all you need to finish this challenge.

I'm excited about this one and need to keep in mind the dates. 450 pages? I'm wondering if I should keep them over 550? Large books aren't usually a problem for me. I know she said we didn't have to list but I did and guess what? The first three are over 600! I don't think meeting 450 is going to be a problem. With all the other challenges I've got going and the number of review books to read before Summer, I may need to keep it at "over 450." We'll see.

Books to Choose from: and about 4 downstairs.....oh, "ADULT literature" rules out Harry Potter & the like ;-) but I think I've still got 3 or 4 down there.

766 pp - The Gathering Storm by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson - I'm going to have a hard time waiting to read this one!

514 pp - The Hunt for Atlantis by Andy McDermott - also for a different challenge

579 pp - Earth by David Brin - also for a different challenge

772 pp - With No One As Witness by Elizabeth George

615pp - Elantis by Brandon Sanderson - also for a different challenge

496pp - Left to Die by Lisa Jackson - also for a different challenge

488pp - Lost Souls by Lisa Jackson - also for a different challenge

643pp - Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

509pp - The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

728pp - Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon

533pp - Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon
529pp - Born of Fire by Sherrilyn Kenyon

822pp - Temple of the Winds by Terry Goodkind - maybe not, it's book 4 in the series

Two for review and four for other challenges, I could do "
Mor-book-ly Obese" but what if I choose different books for the other challenges? I should stick to "The Chubby Chunkster" if I want a chance of completing the challenge and save the other books for 2011!

edited to add books & change things up a bit.
