I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

Types of books:
Mystery.
Suspense.

Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above. That is what embodies the stories, written and visual, that we celebrate with the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril event.

Here's a list of books that have made it onto my previous lists but were never read:

Wow, and I've got more too! ...I'll add more as I find them...

~ Books Read ~

1. A Werewolf in Manhattan by Vicki Lewis Thompson - Paranormal Romance with a bit of suspense (there is a stalker). On the lighter side of the challenge.

2. Persuader by Lee Child - Suspense, gore, gun-runner, misuse of associates' family. {shudder}

3. The Cat's Meow - interconnected anthology on the lighter side of the challenge. Wealthy widow is an eccentric Bostonian gypsy. She needs to adopt out four cats and does what most of us would, she places an ad in the newspaper. Only she also offers $10,000 to start a new business. Each of the cats have their own story, written by a separate author.

4. The Enemy by Lee Child - Mystery, descriptive murder scenes, deadlines, threats of bodily harm by Delta guys. Stalking.

5. With a Kiss by Kim Dare - m/m romance, vampire/human re-telling sleeping beauty (sort of). Liam volunteers at a hospital as a patient visitor. Marcus is in a coma so Liam talks. Liam is a submissive with a bad boyfriend and Marcus hears, and remembers, every word. Knows when Liam has been knocked around. Marcus finally wakes up and there is feeding, fear, stalking, passion, bondage and finally sex. The fear and stalking are not Marcus/Liam although one is stalking and the other is being stalked.

6. The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - family legend, hell hound, mysterious deaths, windswept moor, lots of money to inherit.

7. The Hard Way by Lee Child - a possessive husband, a dead first wife, a kidnapped second wife. Oh, the man has his own army guys. . . the ones that didn't get a dishonorable discharge simply because of lack of evidence. (they got a general discharge) SAS, SEALS, Rangers. So what did he threaten to do to the step-child? With a vegetable peeler? She was 5 at the time. What about when he discovers his wife is pregnant with another man's child? shudder
