I've been gone a while. I started reading fanfiction to escape and I got sucked in an abyss.

I have no idea if someone else is hosting similar challenges. I just grabbed some of what I have hosted before.

Here's to a happy year of great reading
Jan2023: Not much has changed. Writing a fanfiction now O_o as well as reading but I bought 7 new books in December and hope to get those read soon. Crossing fingers about adding challenges (late!)

K is for Kids
I was actually looking for funny videos of goats but you know how it is when you're jumping through links on the internet, you somehow come to find exactly what you were looking for but didn't know you needed to see. Yes, this could have been C for children or even I for I will always come to you but I'm going to stick to Kids for this.

Sorry, you might want tissues for this one.

I know I saw the picture before but didn't read what it was about. It was a mother in the crib with her child and I no longer have small children. Turns out the story is for all of us.

What got to me was the missionary's story. Why cry when no one is going to come? Translate this to the elderly, what's the point of asking for help when there isn't anyone there? Veterans? The bullied? I don't have small children anymore but I do have children, a husband, parents, and siblings. Friends, neighbors, . . . the list is endless.

I once read two stories that were similar but different in outcome. One had two brothers that were hoarders and one was bedridden. As one brother crawled through the maze of stuff to bring food to his brother, he triggered his own booby trap and was killed. The bedridden brother was unable to get help (1947). As the brothers preferred their own company to the company of others, no one discovered them until the bedridden brother had starved to death. (no, I don't have a source handy, fine, try here)

The second story has a widow living alone who decides she must get out and about and find something to do with her time. There is a hospital within walking distance and she signs up to volunteer 3 days a week. One night she falls and misses her volunteer time without calling to say she would be gone. Someone missed her. Someone "heard her cry" and came to help.

Here's the story that started this at Huffpost Parents and the original Facebook post
