Once again I am attempting this read-a-thon. It isn't strictly a midnight to midnight challenge so you'll want to check when you're reading. There are hourly things going on. And there are prizes!

Time: 5 a.m. for me. Dang, I'll miss the first half! Which is perfectly fine. One time I missed several hours in the middle to go to a birthday party!

I don't have any goals but it would be nice to do a mini challenge, review a book and visit five blogs. Okay, I was wrong:

5 a.m. - already asleep.

It's 8:30 p.m. here - I've sleep well, gone out to dinner for my birthday (today!), went to the gym - dang 1/2 mile shy of a 5k (the gym closed)


All my letters are read, reviewed, and scheduled. So I get to pick other stuff to read. I've got 6 - 8 hours of reading time ahead of me, let's see how much I get done!

Now I remember why I so October. I usually get a couple hours in before heading to bed but this time I woke up and was already 9 hours behind. On top of that was dinner out for my birthday, a trip to the gym, and reading a wonderful gift from my husband (The story of how I knew whom I was supposed to marry). I'm just happy I was able to get the two safety books reviewed.

I've never done so little reading for a Read-a-Thon but I'm still going to consider this a success. Not a knock-out by any means but still a success. See you in October!

I did the Introductory Questionnaire before I headed to bed then woke up and got on the computer just in time for the Mid-Event Survey. I read, visited, made dinner, ate, went shopping, then had some stuff to do at the printer and got distracted by LibraryThing. I checked the clock just in time to do the Final Post. Did I meet my goals? . . .

 . . . around 15 or 16. Husband was still up and I hadn't planned food very well.

 . . . I read middle school books and erotica this year. Ready to Wear by Chloe Taylor was great and is the first of a series.

3) Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
 . . . I wasn't involved enough to have an opinion

 . . . the hourly hosts!

 . . . I finished one book. Started/finished two others. Started one. Read some of another.

 . . . Nothing to Lose by Lee Child (This surprised me! Reacher is usually much smarter then he is in this one and I'm having trouble staying with it)

 . . . not a cheerleader - I think that next time I'll have a sticky post with my progress so it is easier to find for them.

10) How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again?
  . . . fairly likely, depends on the timing

11) What role would you be likely to take next time?
 . . . I'd like to make bookmarks for prizes (thought of it too late this time), donate a specific title instead of just money, maybe host a mini challenge (if I can think of something fun/cute)

Already? I didn't think I had slept that long! I got an hour in before bedtime then morning stuff and a quick breakfast before starting to read again. Looks like I checked in just in time!


1) How are you doing? Sleepy? Are your eyes tired?
 . . . Wide awake! I had a very nice sleep, thanks.

2) What have you finished reading?
 . . . nothing :-( 

3) What is your favorite read so far?
 . . . only started on one book, Ready to Wear by Chloe Taylor, almost stayed up to finish it.

4) What about your favorite snacks?
 . . . I'm going with the homemade cookies on this one.

Hour 1

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
 . . . Southern California. I'm in Los Angeles County but am closer to Orange County than I am Hollywood so I don't see movie stars or famous people. I can spend Monday at the beach and Tuesday in the mountains and sleep in my own bed each night.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
 . . . The Owl Keeper by Chris Brodien-Jones but the book I pulled out first was Ready to Wear by Chloe Taylor because I thought it would be a quick read before bed.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
 . . . I have homemade cookies and veggies. Which do you think I'm most looking forward too :D

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
 . . . SAHM of adult children and two cats. I love reading, dislike housework and have a love/hate relationship with the gym. I'm a runner - slow as cold molasses going uphill but still a runner. I'm Christian. A quiet gay-rights supporter. Politically I'm too liberal to be a conservative and too conservative to be a liberal. I'm quietly going about my days, with my nose in a book. I'm hard of hearing so you may have to touch my shoulder or wave your hand in front of me to get my attention.


5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
 . . . I'll be sleeping. I always try to stay up and end up sleeping anyways so this time I planned my "nap" better.

I've taken a picture of all the library books I have checked out and I can only say...yikes! I've got some that are due sooner than others and some that have already been renewed at least once and should be read quickly.

There are a couple of review books, okay there are five seven, on my list. Plus the four I got in the mail yesterday, my huge ARC pile, and even bigger TBR pile. Sigh.

I've donated a prize this year!  "$20 towards book of choice at Book Depository". International and I don't have to pick a title!

I did well with The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card. Almost gave up on it but stuck it out until after page 50 and I lost all track of time while reading. But if you don't like fantasy and magic, forget it. Also strong on Mythology.

If it's not broke, don't fix it!

Finished my third book (same number read as last time) but it put my page count over what I did last time so I'm happy.

Finally had my French Dip sandwiches, yummy :)

Didn't eat as much junk food but had more caffeine today then I've had in a while.

I'm glad I didn't FB/FV, make jello or iron after my last post, I wouldn't have had the time to finish my book. I also didn't visit much and did hardly any mini-challenges.

I do think I'll lurk around some during the coming week/s see how everyone did, congratulate some winners, check out your reading lists.

12:10 p.m. Streeeeetch ;)

Not quite ready to get up mentally but apparently it's time.

Grabbed a soda and started visiting before doing any reading.

Lunch was Tuna with tomato and shredded carrot plus a banana and Root Beer. Yummy but tuna does have a distinctive odor which the husband noticed when he walked in the house after shopping. Sweetheart that he is, he went by himself for supplies and cards for tomorrow plus a treat for me for later tonight. :)

4:30 p.m. Finished my first book!

I'll complete a "Finished Reading" post, rough out a review and start a load of laundry before taking a break. Then I'll visit readers, check out the mini-challenges before starting the next book.

The next post should be a mini-challenge or hours from now.

Still awake!

5 a.m. found me cooking breakfast then reading Dakota Born by Debbie Macomber. So far I've eaten breakfast, emptied then loaded the dishwasher and visited some blogs.

If I could read any book that has been translated into English IN IT'S ORIGINAL LANGUAGE what would it be?
~ it would help if I could read a second language! That being said....the Bible. I'm sure if I gave this some serious thought I could come up with a more mainstream favorite but I'm tired already and I would like to be able to do this.

Dewey - aaaand we're off!

Yawn.

Oh, sorry, it's 5 a.m. here!

Actually, it's Friday morning {blush} but I'm thinking about the read-a-thon, making a game plan for the day.

There will be a family party Sunday afternoon and I need to bring food, that has to be made ahead of time. Dang we need cards too....adding to grocery list.....wondering if my parents are going to take me out to dinner again (birthday). That happened last year :D

I started a good book for the read-a-thon but didn't put it down and finished it. Started Dark Peril by Christine Feehan too, :/ can I wait?

I'm going for page count here even if I don't finish 3 books so I guess I could read Under the Dome, wonder if I could do it without breaks? It has been known to happen

Several books are in a storage unit so I'd better get cracking or part of my reading day will be spent going through boxes.

Hope to do several challenges again this year.

Counting down to . . . .

Too excited to sleep, sort of. My sleep pattern is all messed up and I've been sleeping while you're at work. So what to do about a Read-a-Thon that starts at my bedtime? Stay up and read!

I have a small platform on my desk where my laptop lives. Earlier today it had a pile of books on it when my husband came into the room. He laughed a bit that I even had books piles where the computer goes. I said it was my read-a-thon pile, I was taking a picture. "No way are you going to get all that read," well, no but I'm hoping I can do 800 pages which is slightly more that last time. "Oh, you can do that easy." Isn't he great?


The funny thing about me and reading plans....I don't always follow them! This may look like a great selection but it doesn't mean that I'm going to get any of them read!

Oh, wait a minute, I already read one of them ;)

Two are re-reads, five have been started recently, two are books for review, one was a gift, most are for challenges and several are young adult or middle grades.

Goals:

1. read more than 757 pages.
2. do 4 mini-challenges
3. complete "Finished Reading" posts for books read.
4. Complete reviews if I finished the two review books.
5. Take a break to make finger jello for party

Not bad considering I've already been up (with a short nap) for over 12 hours. I didn't get all my errands done and may have to do a couple later today.

I think I'm going to have a blogroll just for RaT blogs. Not all of them of course but several, especially the ones I already follow.

It's April....time for Dewey's Read-a-Thon!

Wow, I can't believe I almost missed this! I have a space for it on my challenge page and a note on my blog but it wasn't until reading someone else's post that it finally clicked.
How tall is your book stack?

Dewey's 24-hour Read-a-Thon is back. Pile your books, gather your snackage and turn off your phone! Mini-Challenges every hour and visits by Cheerleaders plus others who are participating. Blog, Tweet, and/or Facebook, online participation is a huge part of the Read-A-Thon experience but it is not required.
